From The Pastor’s Desk

“Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.” (Proverbs 2:2, NLT)

As I drive around, invariably I have the radio on in the car. I find that time passes quicker on a long journey if I can listen to some music, or even better, a football match commentary. The most infuriating thing is when I get engrossed in the commentary and the match reaches a crucial stage and then suddenly and without warning, the signal is lost and the sound goes fuzzy. I have to hurriedly try and retune the radio and find a clear signal.

In this verse from Proverbs we are taught that we are to tune in to wisdom and then concentrate on understanding. The need for wisdom in the world is inarguable but sometimes there is a danger that we think that need for wisdom applies primarily to other people. I have found that I need wisdom in my personal life, in my work life, in my spiritual life, in ALL OF LIFE!

I need to concentrate on the source of that wisdom and be careful I don’t tune out and lose the signal. Inevitably there are days when I am tuned to the wrong frequency. On those days I need to retune and free myself of all the static and interference.
